"There's something about his face I just don't like..."
So, as we go careening into the Valentine's Day Shopping Season, the Today Show resurrects a story on how women can judge whether a man will be a good father by his facial features.
(note: the link is not to the Today Show because they did not have text, only video--with, ironically, a commercial for PerfectMatch.com)
The report from last May says that women men with very masculine faces--heavy brows and prominent jawlines influenced by lots of testosterone--are great for flings, but not for long-term relationships. The best example they gave was George Clooney
Yes, lots of testosterone--probably smells really good too...
Guys with softer features--who may have more estrogen--are the ones women will usually marry and have kids with. Guys that look like Leonardo DiCaprio

They who wrote the report did not say anything about women's faces, or anything about women with more testosterone (although they say that
testosterone therapy helps menopausal women get their sex drives back...hmmm...I don't seem to have any trouble in that department...)
They of the tv report said that women who have large eyes and a small, narrow jawline--what's called an "infantile" look--are the ones men prefer to have their children.
So, I got to thinking about what it is about me that always rejected those nice soft-jawed guys in favor of the hard-jawed ones.
I don't know...maybe it's just that I really like all that testosterone...
And what might it be about me, and my rather square-ish jawline that says to men...
Of course, none of these studies allow for how someone is raised, their personalities, etc...
But I do wonder about how men judge women's faces....and I wonder if women are all that aware of the whole face-thing with men. I wonder too the effect of high testosterone on women. Of course, if testosterone in women is too high, it causes trouble-but what if it's just high enough...then what? (I did find the following interesting piece from the Infinite Mind that highlights some findings on the effects of higher than normal testosterone in both men and women
But, of course, none of this is supposed to be right. We're suppposed to be all nurture over nature--grand experiments that are highly mutable and not controlled at all by our physical beings...
Or, all of this is right and we cannot control our physical selves at all and are slaves to it...
Rather, it's probably a combination of both...with one favoring the other at various times in our lives. Esp., I would imagine, when we're looking for mates to reproduce.
But what is it when the drive to reproduce drops off? Who, then, do we become?
