YAY!!!!! IT'S OVER!!!

The "Holiday Season" for retail lingerie is finally over!

Believe it or not, the Holiday Season, as far as retail lingerie is concerned, starts in October with Halloween and does not end until the last stroke of the clock on Valentine's Day. For five months out of the year, there is a push to sell more, to keep the stock moving, to be "on" at all times.

Now, we can relax a bit. After Halloween, Christmas (which, in retail, really starts with Thanksgiving), and Valentine's Day--The Big Three--other holidays like Easter and 4th of July really don't count.

Sure, there's still Mother's Day...but that's not as big a lingerie holiday as the Big Three. It bothers people to think of mothers wearing lingerie, but the fact of the matter is, many would not be mothers if they hadn't wore lingerie for some guy.

And, of course there's the little overlap of May, June, and July, which is, technically, Bridal Season. Although pretty much any season is bridal season, that particular three-month period sees a concentration of brides and the need for honeymoon lingerie. It's always nice to see and talk with the brides. Most are happy and very sweet. There's always a few clunkers in the bunch--the overly neurotic ones who, even though they are size twos, firmly believe they have "love handles" (what, then, do I have? Love Railings?)--but they're not in the majority and sometimes I can talk some body-image sense into their heads.

So, I'm happy today. I have a renewed sense of freedom. And the feeling that I can actually enjoy the rest of the year.

I think I've been in lingerie a bit too long.
