Jeff Gannon Deserves a Spanking

wow...while I was knee-deep in Valentine's Day, a huge and hugely amusing little outing has taken place.

Apparently, a White House press guy by the name of Jeff Gannon not only has an alter-identity, but that particular identity is one of a former "dominant" call-boy.

Check out what Americablog and World O Crap have to say about this.

More often than not, I really don't give a rat's you-know-what about politics, but after taking a gander at these two blogs --at the links listed on Americablog to certain websites with pictures of a young Gannon, and the well written bit of spelunking on World O Crap--my political ire was peaked and tweaked.

It's not just that Gannon is now walking around waving his born-againness in people's faces and pretending to be a journalist when he really isn't, and that he's pretending to be a straight guy when he probably isn't...but by the looks of things, it seems like Jeff was also pretending to be a dominant--when he probaby really isn't! It looks like there's alot more "isn't" with this guy than "is" and it makes me wonder why someone like him was given such a plumb position as a White House correspondent when most women who have as many "isn't"s are quickly and unceremoniously shown the exit door.

From where I'm sitting, the guy's more than likely a big opportunist who will do just about anything and say just about anything to get some kind of noteriety for himself. And when younger, decided to try to make some money in the sex industry. Lots of people try the sex industry--either by being a male or female stripper, by doing a couple of cheapy porn movies or by working as an escort--but few go as all-out as he did with things like listing themselves on multiple websites and such if they are not totally serious about what they are doing.

Most people know that delving into the sex industry is like taking a step in dog crap--once it's on you, it's hard to get it off completely and lots of people are offended by it.

The sex industry can mess with your sexuality. I've known many male strippers who profess to be straight while working for a gay clientele. As far as male strippers go, by law they are not allowed to get excited while performing, so being straight might have some advantages. But are they really straight? If the guy is very young, maybe. Young men and women can "experiment" and put their consciences, and sexual indentities, on hold just to make a buck. That gets a little more difficult as one gets older, and I've seen how dancing in gay clubs plays with the psyches of dancers who think they are completely straight. (I've also seen how female strippers who make the most money are often times lesbians--go figure).

Dancers, though, are one thing....male escorts are another. I'm not quite sure that a man can put his sexuality in his back pocket and perform on cue for someone he is not remotely attracted to on a visceral level. Male attraction is predicated on the visual...and attraction in general is often predicated on hormonal cues. If a guy is straight, how could he possibly get it up to perform a gay sex act (other than, say, out of initial curiosty)?

Well, he could be bi, that's for sure. But that's a whole other kettle of fish (to use a metaphor).

Yet, still, I would think that a guy who's been a male-whore might not be one to be so flambuoyantly conservative as Jeff Gannon appears to have been. Unless he thinks he's bullet-proof.

Feigning the role of a "dominant" or "top" might give a guy experimenting in the homosexual part of the sex industry a sense that he's bullet-proof. It also might give him the sense that he's straight, even if he isn't. By being "dominant," one is playing the role of pitcher rather than catcher. A dominant is never on the receiving end of anything other than a blowjob, and a blowjob can be given by either a man or a woman, so receiving pleasure from a blowjob, whomever gives it, can be construed as being no indication of homosexuality. But, when it comes to true dominance, the fact of the matter is, a young man or young woman is never truly a dominant. Dominance is a state of mind that comes with age and experience.

So, what, then, does that make Jeff Gannon, the dominant? Well, it puts him on the level of alot of young pro-domme women, but with a curiously nasty twist. He put on the guise of a dominant because it sells well....many men have fantasies of a strong young stud dominating them. It looks good and can command big bucks--the same way it does for young women. Yet dominance for pay isn't necessarily the reality of dominance--the person who is paying is the one who dictates the terms of the interaction, not the one in the role of the dominant. Essentially, the payer has the power and the dominant is really only submitting to the will of the client. If the performance is good, the client believes that he is submitting, and the dominant gets a good reputation as being a "real" dominant. For a guy like Jeff, making someone pay for his services while he is pretending to be a dominant not only keeps him from never having to play catcher and never having to actually test the waters of homosexuality, but also re-inforces his own notions of himself as heterosexual who is only exploiting gay men who he probably feels "deserve it". Any sort of conflicts Jeff might have had about his own homosexuality never come to the surface because they are buried under a thick veneer of notions and certitudes that bolster the ideas that anyone who is on the receiving end of a gay sex act is less than a man. If he never receives anything other than a blowjob, and is accepted as a dominant, then he is never gay.

What a colossal mind-fuck.

Although the cheapest, and easiest way around this particular mind-fuck would be for Jeff to simply claim that he was a performer. And if he was only *playing* the role of a hard-boiled dominant companion and ersatz trainer, then he can with much mental and verbal dexterity deny any true homosexual inclinations because, after all there are many, many great actors who have played gay characters who weren't gay at all.

And then his role in the White House press corps was also just that--a play-acting role. He was only putting on a performance because he was paid to put it on....not that he *really* is a jounalist at all. He's just been merely having us all on a bit and none of us should get our knickers in a bunch over a little play-acting for a "good cause".

Kind of like high-schoolers putting on a production of "Oh! Calcutta!" as a fundraiser for the senior class trip.

Honestly, though, when it comes down to it, I wouldn't want to be in Jeff Gannon's head for anything. That kind of mind-fuck and perverse personal justification takes alot of energy and cruelty and manipulation and misanthropy. With that much going on inside, eventually, the outside would collapse on itself nice and neatly, like an imploding casion on the Vegas strip.

Guess we're seeing a really nice little implosion now.

I think you hit the nail on the head by terming Gannon as a performer. It's obvious by some of the questions he asked at so-called press conferences that he's quite happy to play a role to push forward his own agenda.

And definitely not the action of one who's truly "dominant" either.
