So, I had Chinese food tonight, which meant the obligatory fortune cookie...that had the following statement printed on it...
um...yeah...as if eating's ever been a problem for me...not with my current waistline, that's for sure....
and this fortune comes at the same time that the Gap announces it's bought an Illinois clothing retailer called Forth and Towne that specializes in clothing for women over 35. Apparently, Gap's hip young thang ad campaigns have been driving away its major customer base and their sales flatlined over the past fiscal year.
ha-ha!
The only problem is that there are four of these stores in Illinois and one will be opening in Nyack, NY soon.
Oh, like that's going to do me and my "good appetite" any good in the near future.
Meanwhile, there's some midlife crisis idiot on a white, loud-piped Harley who keeps riding up and down the street. Roughly four blocks up and four blocks back...as if he's some sort of street patrol. Frankly, I'm real tired of the midlife crisis born-to-be-wild dudes that keep free-ranging around here. As if any of us really wants to lose the nights sleep because they feel some need to stake out a territory by setting off all the car alarms within said eight block radius.
oh, and in our local mall, the Gap is opening up a Gap-managed Goodwill outlet. In the big local mall. Don't think we'll be seeing a Forth and Towne any time soon, but I'm sure the biker dudes will have fun buying distressed jeans at the Goodwill.
Time to take my appetite and move out of the ghetto.
May you have a good appetite

A Gap-managed Goodwill outlet??? I'm clueless. How do they work this?
I have no idea how they're doing this one either. I checked out Goodwill's website and there doesn't seem to be anything about a joint-venture with the Gap. It could be that Gap is footing some of the bill for the mall rental space and thus getting a nice tax deduction (which they could use considering their flatlined sales for the latest fiscal year), or there's something else that makes the Gap/Goodwill partnership beneficial to Gap. The whole thing is very, very strange in many ways. I'm waiting to see what's going to happen to the space--how it will be set up, arranged, etc. I find it very odd for a Goodwill to be in a big mall, but, given the demographics of the area, I see that they would want the Goodwill in the mall rather than downtown Holyoke or Springfield. The Mall is downtown...
There aren't too many malls in this part of the world, and I'm finding that this particular one is geared primarily to young people and to middle-lower income bracket. I find it very disappointing, compared to the malls back home in NJ.
