I got a job!

Well, sort of.

For the past couple of months I've been working on an article on women and blogging for a niche magazine.

I was very surprised that the editor gave me the story because I have no clips and it will be my first story. I *was* kind of pushy about it though...

Then again, I don't have a contract. So who knows if it will actually make it to the publication or just sit on the editor's desk.

It's due at the end of August. I've been researching and reading like a maniac, and talking to people who are relavent to the niche market. I like the researching, don't mind the talking, and find that my interviewing skills are pretty lacking. I prefer to simply have a conversation with someone to find out what's important to them about blogging--not just ask a bunch of rote questions. I seem to get better information that way, but taking notes is a bitch! Esp. when you're doing the interview over the phone!

When it hit me what I have to do by the end of August....that writing was the "dream job" after all....and that I really have to work for this and cannot manage any more upheaval in my life, I realized I just can't make any changes right now. I'm backing away from committing emotional hari-kari.

Now, the trick is not to be such a freakin' perfectionist.

That's what a good interview is. Check out Playboy's interviews. They read like that.

Thanks a, J and T (as well as Soli and Heather who left congrats on another post that was deleted)....it's been a crazy, out of balance couple of days, getting used to the idea that I have things to do that aren't just for my own edification.

I now have to call an alumn who's the head of Mediabistro. I don't know what's worse--calling the muffler place about putting a new pipe on the car, or calling someone I *don't* know and having to sound all professional while I'm still in my jammies.
