I wish I knew.....
I'm one of those bloggers who's obsessed with her stats.
Mainly because my daily stats are fairly low--my readership is in the tens of...well....in the tens--I have the time to go in and peep at where they come from. I first check to see who's spent time looking at the site....then I go in and check which site they were at before....then I might check the entry and exit pages.
I found some interesting stuff today. Somebody read 16 pages for close to one hour. Wow. Someone else came in from an email on hotmail, but I couldn't trace the link. Someone else came in from something saved on his desktop and read for a couple of minutes.
Sometimes I can figure out who's been here. That's kind of fun, knowing who it was who read me :-)
Then, there are the mysteries. The "unknown" referrring page, the entry and exits that are just the blogsite. I'm fascinated by those, yet also frustrated by the lack of information and the not knowing who it was.
I wonder who they are, what their lives are like...if they blog or just read blogs.
It's an interesting feeling....like butterflies....interesting to know that people are reading me who I may never, ever, know.
Maybe that's what it feels like to publish a book, to have it on the shelves, to know that people will read me and maybe think I suck and maybe think I'm nuts, or maybe even think I've got some talent or my words and life are interesting.
At least (I hope) I'm entertaining.

I love stats, too, Tish. One of the big advantages of having my own domain is being able to install my own favorite program.
And kiddo, you're better than entertaining. You're thoughtful, intelligent, insightful and compassionate. That's why I check several times a day to see if you're posted anything.
:)
Hi, Tish. I love stats, too. I, too, am fascinated by who chooses to visit me, and how long they stay around. And as to the mystery readers (and there are many of those!): don't they make life exciting? Keep writing. Like Terry, I, too, check several times a day to see if you've posted, and miss you when you go traveling. ;-)
Stats are so interesting. I think everyone who uses them must love them.
Sometimes they frustrate me, like the times people have spent an hour or two and clicked on every single entry yet leave no comment and never come back again. Then there are people who have visited 120 times and I have no idea who they are.
Sometimes the stats disgust me, when I see the kiddie porn/violent keywords occasionally used to get to my blog.
I check my stats a lot because I'm very nosy and this fulfills some small stalkerish tendency in me when I can figure out who visited and say aha...I know who you are and why you like to read that one entry over and over.
