Pink Eye?
I feel utterly, utterly gross.
It's bad enough that I've been hacking and blowing since last Thursday. There's no fever now, and no real reason to be like this--so I call it the Crap and Crud phase of recovery. Plus, my right shoulder and neck muscles are killing me, mostly from coughing, a little bit from typing too much. And my appetite and digestion are also a bit off.
This morning, to add insult to injury, I woke up with my right eye all red and crusty.
I immediately thought pink eye! and, at 6:45 a.m., was looking up whatever I could find on WebMD, which I've been consulting regularly since I started coming down with the Crap and Crud last week. I've spent more time on Web MD than I have anywhere else this past week as I monitor my progress back toward health.
WebMD was pretty good with advice about a red, crusty eye. It said to wait about 24 hours if it's *just* red and crusty, with no pain or photosensitivity--keep it clean and use a cold or hot compress.
So, I did all that...and, magically, it's starting to calm down. I even used some eye drops, which have also helped. I know from past experience that if it was pink eye, an eye drop would feel like a small dagger being pushed thru my eyeball. No dagger in the eyeball--it actually felt good.
It's probably a combination of sore neck, arm and back muscles, congestion, and maybe eye irritation from either some makeup removal stuff or the way I was sleeping last night. Maybe part of the pillowcase got jammed up against my eye. When I'm not feeling well, and I'm knocking myself out before going to sleep, I'm usually not aware of how I'm sleeping--I'm so blissed-out that if something's uncomfortable, I don't notice it. I sleep right through it.
I'm glad, though, that it's turning out not to be pink eye. I'd hate to have to go to the walk-in clinic and sit there for 2 or more hours, with the possibility of picking up another virus or bacterial infection that might be roiling around in the soupy air.
But, after a week of the Crap and Crud, I am sick of it. Sick of being sick. From a visual standpoint, I'm simply not presentable to the public. From an emotional standpoint, I'm beginning to get a bit more depressed than I was last week when I came down with this stuff--even though my sleeping pattern's back to normal. All the hacking and blowing and stuffiness and OTC medications cloud my brain a bit--thinking's tough. It doesn't help that this wet, nasty snow's been falling on several occasions since monday. I want to go someplace warm, where I can dry up, loosen up and cheer up.
Ugh.
How many more months of winter?? Too months too many, I'm sure.
Right now I'm just glad I didn't have to add pink eye to the Crap and Crud. Or, at least I hope not. We'll see in another 24 hours.

Shalom Tish,
If I didn't know better, I'd suspect that crud germs were transmittable through the net. I'm finally coming out of a week of coughing and hacking. What I really hate is the phase where the cough is dry and your head hurts every time you hack.
I swear by Alka Seltzer Night Time Cold formula. It's even available in lemon and cherry now.
B'shalom,
Jeff
Hang in there, Tish. You're beginning to "sound" better with every blog post. ;-)
Jeff...
This is really the *worst* I've been in a long time. I think it's worse than the strep I had last year because it's all viral.
And, yes, I now have *viral* pink eye...confirmed by my call to the clinic.
Nothing seems to beat this thing. If sleep's now making it worse (the pink eye appeared after a good night's sleep) does this mean I now have to stop sleeping???
:-(
T.
Thanks Denise! I have to get better so I can kick some butt on the civility issue. I haven't been able to put a coherent thought together in over a week!
Your thoughts are coherent, unless you're just pulling saved drafts. I think the civility issue is just really difficult - especially for people like you and me who "do" snark. ;-)
Hey, Tish! I used to get pink eye all the time, and now I don't.
Here's what I do at the first sign of redness: apply a hot compress (the hottest you can stand) for 30 minutes, three times a day. Also, put your face over a steaming pan of camamile (sp?) tea with a towel draped over your head and the pan.
Works better than any western medicine I've ever tried. And, it's made my life a lot easier!
Get well soon!
