The Dream Job
A short time before graduation, I remember sitting down with one of the career counsellers, who proceeded to ask me "What's your Dream Job?"
At that point in time I couldn't give her an answer. I was most certainly burnt out emotionally, intellectually, and physically. I wanted to sleep for about six months and think about it. Thinking about it, however, wasn't a luxury I could afford any more than I could afford graduate school. I needed a job, a.s.a.p., right after graduation, and I had no clue what I might be qualified to do.
So, I kinda freaked out on the poor woman.....
Thing is, I now see where my particular "dream job" both hadn't been invented yet, and was something I didn't think I could do....
Writing a resume, for me, usually ends up as an exercise of forest and trees: not being able to see the forest in which my job inhabits because I'm concentrating on crafting each individual tree of a job description. It's taken me about 3 weeks of stepping back, and stepping back, and stepping back, and a whole eureka afternoon (not just a moment) to see that, yest, I'm actually an online community developer!
and that being an online community developer is my dream job!
Geez,it took me a heck of a long time--nine years to be exact--from graduation to finally figure that one out!
Now, the trick will be to *get* the job....
Only time will tell...
