Having friends in the tech industry is sometimes like having friends in the peacetime military--they get moved around a lot....

When one job ends, the next job might not be in the same state, let alone in the same town. It's the nature of the biz...

Another friend of mine is moving....don't quite know where yet, but it will certainly be out of Western Mass, and nowhere in Mass period.

We got to talking tonight that, if you're in certain sectors of tech, you're going to get moved around a lot depending on what sector of the tech industry you end up a part of. Game developers can end up in Silly Valley or up in Washington or somewhere else where there's a gaming company. Software developers can end up all over the place too.

I think though that moving around is the nature of a certain level of employment--that is, until ya hit a particular "executive" level, and then you can kind of stay put.

For some reason it just doesn't feel right to me. Too many people I've known have moved in the past year--like all the friendships have been gutted. And it's not easy to make friends around here, and in adulthood, esp. not having kids.

Who knows...I may end up moving out of the state myself at some point because there's not a lot of money for me to scratch out around here. It's just that kind of place--just not a lot of jobs, really.

Even Lucky Bastard's had to get a job out of state.

I can keep bitchin' and moanin' that it's the area, there's not suitable employment--an to a degree that's true. But it's also the nature of the businesses most of the folks I know are in. Those kinds of jobs just aren't here, which makes it hard to stay.

Although with this friend leaving, it seems more like a new beginning of something, not just a mass exodus. I mentioned that to her tonight--like there's something very, very new around the corner.

I feel like there's something new brewing for me, too--just don't know what yet. Lots of irons in the fire. Just don't know which one is hot enough yet...
